The activities are many and varied. There’s bound to be something to interest you and inspire you on your woodturning journey.
Timber & Tool Sales
On most club evenings members have the opportunity to purchase timber blanks, helping to raise valuable funds for the club.
Our timber blanks, generally sourced from native British trees, are collected and prepared by club volunteers throughout the year and offered for sale at very reasonable prices. This provides members with an excellent opportunity to obtain interesting and often unusual timber at prices far lower than those found at commercial outlets.
Members are also welcome to sell unwanted tools through the club at the annual summer sale evening. A small percentage of the proceeds goes towards supporting club funds.

The Christmas Special
The December club night is our annual Christmas Special — a relaxed and sociable evening with soft drinks, festive nibbles and plenty of good company.
The evening typically includes a raffle, a fun hands-on turning challenge to create a Christmas bauble, and the Association’s annual prize giving. The monthly competition also features the Keith Sherwood Challenge (see the Competitions page for further details)
External Events
Each year, the club is invited to attend four or five local craft and artisan shows, ranging from smaller community events to larger regional exhibitions.
These events are a fantastic opportunity to introduce woodturning to the wider public – many visitors may never have seen a lathe in action before. Club members enjoy chatting to visitors about woodturning, answering questions and giving informal demonstrations throughout the day.
For less experienced turners, these events can also be a great way to build confidence and try a little demonstrating in a relaxed and supportive setting. More experienced members are always on hand to help and encourage.
As well as being great fun and highly social, external events help the club attract new members, raise awareness of woodturning and, at some events, provide members with the opportunity to display and sell their work.
