January 2026 Beginner Theme 1st – Oliver Roden
Varnish was used to bring out the colour in this ‘pencil case’ turned from cherry.

January 2026 Beginner Theme 2nd – John Downey
Turned as a long hollow-form box, the hardest part of making this pencil case was getting a good finish to the inside. Sanding sealer and spray lacquer was used.

January 2026 Intermediate Open 1st – Alex Simpson
A variety of different woods were used to make this traditional doll, before the parts were painted and adorned with extra details.

January 2026 Advanced Theme 1st – Adrian Needham
This lidded pencil case in oak holds a number of standard pencils safely inside. A waxed finish gives it a satisfying sheen.

This unusual ornament in Robinia and Hazek is inspired by a turning by Hans Weistlog

January 2026 Master Theme 1st – Richard Audsley
The challenge with this lidded pencil case in London Plane and Sapele, was making 4 near identical pots – they had to be spindle turned to get gluing grain to work.
